Linden High School Spanish III Honors students collaborated and prepared chicken fajitas commemorating Cinco de Mayo festivities. At School No.10 Miss Catherine Reilly’s third grade art classes students learned how to create folded tissue paper flowers. The students in the picture are from Mrs. Lori DeMarzo’s class and they created beautiful bouquets of flowers to celebrate Mother’s Day.

LHS Holds Annual Law Day Activities

The Linden High School Annual Law Day provides an opportunity for Linden High School students to explore the movement for civil and human rights in America and the impact it has had in promoting the ideal of equality under the law.
At Linden High School’s Annual Law Day, the Linden Police Department, Linden Fire Department, first responders, Armed Forces, Linden Board of Education members, along with community leaders, spoke with students and explained their day-to-day duties and responsibilities. Also discussed were the importance of each departments communication to the safety and security of Linden residents. One of the highlights of Linden High School’s Annual Law Day was the Linden Police Department’s SWAT Team. Officers brought with them the gear they use in their operations, and allowed students to try them on for themselves. Christopher Tangarife learned about their training and important role in the security of the city.

LHS Graduate Visits Students After Tour in Afghanistan

PFC Michael Ortmann, class of 2010, came to speak to Ms. Donegan’s class after returning from his tour in Afghanistan. This class met Michael before he was deployed last year and wrote to him while he was in Afghanistan. LHS Senior Wins Medal at Art Competition

The 10th Congressional District Art Competition allows beginners and advanced art students to create a “personal masterpiece” and have it displayed in a professional museum for others to enjoy. Linden High School senior and a shared student at the UCVT Bryce Scott has won the Gold Medal at Congressman Donald Payne’s Annual 2013 CONGRESSIONAL ART – EXHIBIT/COMPETITION

This competition, entitled “An Artistic Discovery”, takes place during the month of April and is part of a nationwide program to encourage young people to utilize visual arts as a medium for self-expression.

LHS Marching Band Performs at Busch Gardens Williamsburg VA

The Linden High School Marching Band performed at the main entrance of Busch Gardens, Virginia, Saturday morning. They entertained hundreds of park guests as they arrived for the day.

LHS DECA Students Compete on National Level

The DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) is the highlight of the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) year. Sixteen thousand high school students, and advisors, gather for DECA excitement. Most participants at ICDC compe te in one of DECA’s competitive events. The top competitors in each event are recognized for their outstanding achievements. In addition to the competitive events, many students and advisors participate in a variety of leadership and career advancing academies.

School No.6 Students Celebrate Diversity at BOE Meeting

Linden School No. 6 celebrated Diversity and Poetry month’s at the April Linden Board of Education meeting. Students sang “Its a Small World” by the Walt Disney Company and read a poem “The Crayon Box That Talked” by Shane DeRolf.

Madrigals and Touring Troupe Represent LHS in County Showcase

The Linden High School Madrigals under the direction of Duane Cosby, Dance Company under the direction of Barbara Brady and Musical Theatre Touring Troupe under the direction of Matthew Lorenzetti were selected to represent Linden at the 2013 Union County Teen Arts Showcase. These groups were selected based on their outstanding performances at the Union County Teen Arts Festival in March. The concert will take place May 7, 2013, 7pm, at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway. The concert is free and open to the public.

Soehl ESL Students Visit Sterling Hill Mine

Joseph E. Soehl Middle School ESL students explored geology and mineralogy through an underground mine tour, a scavenger hunt through an historical exhibit, a visit to a museum of fluorescence, and through an opportunity, at the conclusion of the trip, to use what they had learned to participate in their own identification and collection of important rocks and minerals. Over the course of the trip to the Sterling Hill Mine, students were engaged in making connections between the products they use every day and raw materials taken from the Earth. Additionally, each student left the mine not just with the rocks they collected and memories of their experiences, but also with an important challenge to continue to consider and explore ideas on how to reduce dependence on mining and help keep environmental consequences to a minimum.
