Students in Jan Macha's language arts classes at Soehl Middle School got a special visit Thursday from Mark Drake, an associate vice president of L'Oréal USA. Drake came to speak about steps to success and keys to public speaking to prepare the students for their next assignment: presenting argumentative speeches. School No. 1 families came together Wednesday for a night of fun "Under the Big Top." The circus-themed party of food, fun and games featured stations in the gym with temporary tattoos, face-painting, Scrabble, coloring and crafts, and third-grade teacher Michael Mastriano dressed as a clown making balloon animals. Down the hall, classrooms were set up for games of Jeopardy and Family Feud, as well as karaoke.
